Davines Rebel Collection

Picture
As we look through Davines' forecast collection for fall, we see a lot of the color trends that we talked about last week. The blue/ jet black brunettes, golden blondes and feisty redheads. Another thing we notice about this collection are the bold cutting trends for this fall.
Picture
First big trend, fringe. Lots of short, bold fringe. Used to either create or soften edges on the face, fringe is a great way to add something new to your existing cut. Cut wispy bangs into an existing shag, and you've got a little more drama added to your look. Cut straight bangs into an A line cut to add some more flavor.
Picture
The second trend we are seeing, extreme layering. A modern twist on the already stylist shag, lots of texture gives you a rock n' roll meets beach babe look. Texture is also a great transitioning technique for those of use growing out shorter hair. Add texture to a bob and it becomes a mid length cut!
Picture
Lastly, in all of the cuts this season we are seeing an emphasis on shape. Sharp angle, short bobs, long straight hair, round layering and texture for curly hair. Lots of extremes in all direction.
Picture
The leaves may be dying, but we are not. Add something, cut something, do something differently. Davines named this collection correctly, because this season is all about your inner "Rebel". Take advantage of this transitional season, we can't wait to help you take the plunge.

Fall Hair Color Trends!

10/20/2016

As the leaves change colors, so do we. This autumn inspires a new twist on our summer blondes, brunette and redheads. With fashion heading the direction of 90's grunge, we see some reoccurring themes from both the 70s and 90's this season.
Picture
First up, the buttery blonde. Forget your icy, cool, basically grey blonde. And say hello to being a golden goddess. The underrated Golden blonde makes its way into couture ads this season, we are also seeing the trend in the salon. Why do we love this look? Going warmer does excellent things for your complexion. Warmer colors reflect more light, helping you not look so washed out. If you stay warmer, a platinum or bright blonde will be shiny and healthier looking.
Picture
Picture
The brunette trend this season is a jet black sombre. A play on the fall trend for blondes last year, the brunettes give this familiar trend an interesting approach. Starting at the root with a dark "jet black" and melting into a light but still dark brunette allows you to have the intensity you've been searching for. The depth help makes the ends seem like a highlight without crossing over into the bronze, blonde family. Always a fan of a good sombre!
Picture
Picture
Last but not least, our Redheads. This season is all about one thing- COPPER. This trend we have seen in many forms. Blondes going more strawberry, brunettes adding some copper highlights or those really taking the plunge into a deep cherry red all over. Although I love the variety, I'm all about this yellow-orange we are seeing. Rarely do we see people brave enough to try copper out, but when they do, it works. The most common mistake is not going bright enough, do it! We know you'll love it. Why should gingers have all the fun?
Picture
Picture
So this season is about extremes. Extreme depths and extreme warmth. If extreme isn't your thing or seems intimating, try babylights along your part line or add some face framing highlights. Stepping out of your hair comfort zone is the best thing you've done all year, why not try it this fall!

Your Hair Assistant by Davines

Introducing Davines' most recent product innovation, Your Hair Assistant. Designed with you in mind, the line consists of three steps: preparation, styling and finishing.

For preparation, shampoo with Your Hair Assistant Shampoo for all hair types-- it smells freakin' amazing. Then you'll want to condition. This line has two types of conditioner called Prep Creams. The Prep Cream you'll want to use should be the one designed for your hair type. The Prep Mild Cream is perfect for fine to medium hair. Moisturizing enough to deeply nourish the hair but doesn't weigh the hair down. The Prep Rich Balm was designed for thick to treated hair. Ideal for brittle or over processed hair especially. Leaves hair hydrated and restored to original softness.

There is only one step for Styling. The blow dry primer is excellent at adding body and protects from humidity. All hair types can use the blow dry primer and it's as easy as adding a couple spritz on towel dried hair.

Then, blow dry your hair!
Picture
Now to Finish. The Definition Mist is great for adding separation as well as a glossy polished finish. Use before using any hot tools! Great for a long lasting blow dry! The Perfecting Hair Spray is true to its name, I LOVE IT. This hair spray gives medium hold to the hair but is practically invisible. Curls stay true to shape and size but you never get the crunchy feel!   Excellent at bodifying natural hair movement. The last product of the Finishing step is the Volume Creator. Using bamboo and coconut powder, a quick brush of the applicator on the roots and the result is volume and structure.

You will now be able to have salon quality blow dries everyday. Thanks to Your Hair Assistant! Let us prove it to you with a blow out. Once you see this revolutionary line in action, we know you'll be hooked :)

Summer Contour Guide

 Summer Contour Musts!

Okay so we all know the contour basics: Bridge of the nose, cheek bones, forehead. But there are a couple of key areas that are not as widely known. These could be the key spots you’re missing in your routine and it could explain the unevenness of your look.

Here are my three places to keep in mind:
  1. Eyelids: If you’re not a huge eyeshadow girl, try using a light matte brown shadow in the crease of your eye. The eye needs a little definition too! Plus when you are truly bronze, your eyelids are not super white. Settle down with the concealer ladies and remember to give those eyes a little depth, too!
  2. Your double chin: That's right, I said it. Everyone has one and we need to help ourselves out and contour! Brush your bronzer along your jaw line, then bronze the underneath of your jaw connecting to your neck. By contouring we help give an even stronger illusion of a shadow.
  3. Collarbone: There is nothing sexier than the décolleté. Add a little bit of depth by sweeping bronzer across your collar bone. You can add a little highlight or shimmer too on the tops of the collarbone to give a nice glow.

Once you’ve bronzed in the correct places you’ll notice a nice slim summery glow. The perfect accessory at any time!

Hello, Ally!

I'd like to give a shout out to one of my best pals at work, Ally McMahan. Not only does she make work extra fun, she gives great advice and can always make you laugh. Clients love her calming nature and easy going attitude. I had Ally write a little about herself so you'll understand why I love her so much.

"Hello, I'm Ally McMahan.
I grew up in Trinity, North Carolina, a small country town 25 minutes south of Greensboro. I have a very small family that I am extremely close with. My mother is in Greensboro and my father is in Boston. Growing up I was always really into hair and makeup. I can remember cutting my Barbie's hair and eventually cutting my friends' hair in middle school on the back porch with kitchen scissors. I turned my hair bright orange in high school and was so amazed and inspired when my stylist turned the orange mess into something beautiful. It really made me realize how big of a difference your hair can make in the way you feel about yourself.
I graduated Trinity High School in 2010 and attended ECU for 2.5 years until I dropped out after talking to a stylist in Greenville about cosmetology school. Fun fact: I was voted life of the party in high school.
I am fearless in my work and want to inspire my clients to speak with their hair. Watching other masterful stylists inspires me to be a better stylist and work hard and think creatively to achieve better results. I like to paint and write when I'm not outside kicking it with Mother Nature."

She's your new favorite stylist and your newest friend. She's the kind of person you just want to relax and share a beer with. Below are photos of some of her work. Make sure to follow her on Instagram!

Your face=New favorite accessory!

4/4/2016

Make me up!

Trends we are seeing this spring in the cosmetic world have us excited! The first thing we are noticing is the blue eye shadow! Perfect for a music festival, concert or maybe you need a pop of color with that new black dress! Small, but vibrant pops of blue are your newest accessory.
Picture
Second trend, let your lips do the talking. Instead of the ever so popular (but horrible) over drawn lip, we are still keeping lips at our center focus but this time with color. All vibrant shades of crimson, pink, orange are being seen in the fashion world. The key is to keep it fresh and young!
Picture
Lastly - glitter, glitter, glitter. So obviously the objective this season is to have a cosmetic look that also doubles as an accessory.  We love this look because it's more organic, romantic, even a little angelic - but with a feisty twist.
Picture

ALSO, don’t forget your exaggerated lashes! However, we don’t predict those will go out of style anytime soon :)

Spring has arrived!

Spring Trends have arrived! Fresh and new, let's see what Spring 2016 has in store for us.

First of all the cuts of the season: Fringe is making a comeback this Spring. We are seeing a variety of fringe. Think: every version imaginable - cheekbone Bardot bands, curly face framers, and even some blunt baby bangs. Other haircuts include short, choppy cuts - both shag and bob versions are also coming back. Basically this spring is about texture. Find a cut that compliments your natural texture with a modern twist.

And color? Icy-blond tones, ranging from a platinum bleach-and-tone to cool, nearly white babylights, are taking hold, while shades of red are being updated with copper highlights and deep, one-color tones. Fret not if you aren't ready for commitment, because a softer version of babylights is also popping up, and it's everything you want: universally flattering and super-easy to grow out. Warmer blonde is also making a break through - if you want to lighten up but are not into the high-maintenance habits you’ll want to be a little more honey and less platinum. Bronde of course is still in style. A healthier way to give the brunettes a little sun kiss without damaging the hair. Bronde help gives the illusion of lighter hair without over processing.

Less is more with Hair Story.

Hello to Hair Story.

Hair Story introduces you to a new way to wash your hair. Based on the principle that all shampoos contain harsh chemicals called detergents. That's right, no matter how many times they put “Sulfate-free” “Paraffin-free” on the bottles, if it's a shampoo it's damaging to your hair.

My favorite part of Hair Story’s New Wash? I don’t have to use conditioner! Using New Wash is a totally new experience when it comes to washing your hair. New Wash doesn’t sud, foam or slide through your hair. Instead you massage New Wash into the scalp and make sure to lather your hair. Let New Wash sit in your hair for a couple minutes and then comb through and rinse really well. That easy! Hair Story promises you will not need a conditioner; I promise you that, too.

The result: Soft, revived hair and the ability to see your hair's personality, without frizz. Michael Gordon, the owner of Hair Story, says: “I find my curls have improved, my hair looks more modern; it feels lived-in.”
Picture
There are three styling products that come with the Hair Story Line:

Dressed Up is a blow dry serum made to make the hair look modern with the intention of looking stylish effortlessly. Apply a dime size amount throughout the hair before blow drying and Voila!

Hair Balm is great for natural textures. It is moisturizing and bouncing - so perfect for dry, highly colored or processed hair. It's perfect for air drying your luscious locks! Apply two pumps to your damp hair and you're ready to go!

Undressed may be my favorite of the products. It's a more modern approach to texture, more gentle than your typical sea salt spray and WAY less crunchy! (yay) Spritz into dry or damp hair. I love to curl hair with a wand and then spray a little in the ends. Gives the perfect mermaid look!

TREND ALERT: Undercut Hair Tattoo

3/13/2016

By far the biggest hair trend of 2016, the Undercut now has a new appearance. Just shaving the nape or side of your hair is so 2014-- fast forward to the Hair Tattoo.
Picture
Easily hidden by long hair, the hair tattoo gives some style to your messy bun but also can be concealed for more conservative occasions. The undercut also can help really thick hair become more manageable. I love an undercut with a bob because it will help the ends from flipping out and keeps the cut looking sleek and not so boxy.
Picture

Our very own Valentin is always ahead of the trends. His beautiful color and undercut (pictured above) were featured in Seventeen Magazine. Now the whole staff is jumping on board! Both Jessica and Chantelle are rocking some super cool hidden hair tattoos. Whereas Caleb and Lindsay rock theirs for all to see.
