Whats the big deal with Keratin?

What is Keratin

Keratin has in the recent years has become a big word in the hair industry, but what is it?

Picture

Keratin is the protein that makes up your hair , skin, and nails.

Keratin protects the hair from damage and stress, keratin as an oil cannot be dissolved in water or organic solvents. Keratin is the most important ingredient that makes your hair, so were natural production lacks, you come in. So stock up on those keratin enriched products but choose wisely.

Over time the hair decreases in the amount of keratin it holds as the hair grows old. The clock of time ravishes the strength and protein of your hair.  The lack of keratin in the hair makes it dry and prone to breakage. This is why putting keratin back in is so important to keeping your hair healthy. By filling that protein back in your hair makes noticeably healthier shiny hair. You can put keratin back into your hair through a variety of products such as shampoos, conditioners, conditioning products, and styling aids.

What benefits will I see from using a keratin product?

Picture
  • Gets rid of split ends
  • Increases elasticity and strength
  • Adds an extra coating over the outer layer of the hair making it stronger
  • Protects against harmful UV rays
  • Helps detangle hair

Before you buy

Before you go grabbing just any ol’ keratin product, you have to look at the other ingredients. Even though the keratin protein is good for you what is mixed with it may not be. Some shampoos may contain formaldehyde in them as well, formaldehyde is a known carcinogen which is a catalyst to cancer. In gas form formaldehyde is toxic but in a liquid base it is drastically less hazardous but should only be handled by professionals that know how safely use those kind of chemicals.
Another ingredient to stay away from is sulfates, having sulfate free shampoo is key period. Sulfates can damage the hair, and seep moisture away from your hair and scalp. Making it counteractive on the whole hair care.
Last of all like a lot of shampoos, overuse of shampoo can cause loss of moisture of the scalp and potential thinning of the hair.  Make sure that your shampooing routine doesn't excess once a day. Even cutting back to a couple times a week will do you good and replenish your natural oils.
It is important to have a reputable brand of keratin products, to optimize the keratin intake.  Brazilian blowout Acai Anti-frizz shampoo, conditioner and styling products are top of the line and are recommended for keeping hair frizz free and to prolong the keratin treatments. They are also sulfate free and are recommended by most hairdressers.

Keratin treatments

Then there is keratin treatments which is a bit different from from regular keratin products. A keratin treatment is also know as a Brazilian blow out, it is the act of putting protein back in the hair by raising the cuticles “scales” as much as possible, adds protein in the strands and  heat sealing the proteins in. The treatment involves a high concentrated keratin  shampoo and conditioner that can only be used by professionals. Then the hair is dried and straightened. This treatment not only puts that protein back in your hair, but reduces frizz, gives it shine, with less tangles, and makes the hair more manageable over all.  This treatment is ideal for people who have very frizzy hair, curly moisture lacking hair, and with any unmanageable hair.
At Orrell, we also offer complimentary keratin shampoo and conditioner with every keratin treatment.

Its summer ladies the time of the sun, and the sun kissed hair. Get your blonde on!

Picture

There is a shade of blonde and a color contour for everyone, find the best one for you. The more time you spend outside the blonder you'll be, thank you sun <3.
Not all blondes are the same and not all blondes have to come with dry hair. You can pick the type of shade that is right for you, and a unique beauty (or follow in the footsteps of your favorite celeb, love my Kardashians). When there comes blonde there comes moisturizing, not just for your face. Keeping your hair healthy may take some conditioning treatments, but hey whats an add on compared to gorgeous healthy hair?

Icy Blonde

Picture

The icy platinum blonde, the gray blonde hair can stop a man in his tracks. It adds attention to you and makes a women feel powerful. Its the lightest of the blondes and takes some toner up keep. Its suggested for light to mid skin tones, giving a nice but not drastic contrast. This shade of blonde not only looks good as a full root to ends look but as well as a balayage.  For up keep use davines silver shampoo and conditioner, to keep the tones in the hair.

Beige Blonde

That sweet spot right between the golden and icy blonde giving you the best of both worlds. Its a soft and subtle blonde that makes the hair look very natural. The beiged out color is easier to keep then the icy and can work for tanner skin tones.

Golden Blonde

Picture

The natural golden honey blonde, the suns bestie. The golden tones is an easy up keep and the sun will naturally make it lighter with out taking away any gold from the hair. With tones of golden in the hair it is most versatile with skin tones and dimension. This blonde looks good on most skin tones and is easier to achieve this shade.

Balayage

Picture

A perfect contour for the face, it adds definition that frames the face. Its important to have the right contour to compliment the face.
Balayage is a great way to start blonde, its the blonde without the commitment. You wont have to get those roots touched up, just freshen the color and your better then golden. Not only is it easier up keep but it is raging in fashion right now. The balayege trend is only going to get bigger this year.
